No code to memorise — kids build a birthday web page with AI
The child explains the idea clearly, and TRAE — ByteDance’s AI coding tool — writes the code. After 8 lessons every child can build a birthday page with a cake, balloons and music, publish it, and give it to their family.
Tools and ideas used in this course
Do any of these sound familiar?
Before looking into the course, most parents raise exactly the worries below.
The word "coding" makes my child back away
A screen full of dense English code feels overwhelming, so they decide they are not good enough at maths or English and never take the first step.
School IT class only scratches the surface
The textbook is far from "making something real"; after a whole term the child still has nothing they can show anyone.
I want my child to try AI but have no idea where to start
Everyone knows AI matters more each year, but online courses are either far too deep or not made for teenagers, and parents cannot easily tell them apart.
Worried that "learning to code" becomes "playing on the computer"
You want your child sitting at the computer to be thinking and creating, not gaining one more excuse for games and short videos.
A different route: let AI write the code
This course does not drill syntax. It teaches children to say what they want clearly, and hands the rest to AI.
Talk to AI in plain language
No syntax to memorise, no keywords to recall. The child states the idea clearly, TRAE produces the code, and the child keeps the creative and judgement work.
A visible result in every lesson
Progress you can see each time: a web page appears in lesson one, and by lesson five the child’s birthday page runs.
A legitimate, dependable tool
The China edition of TRAE is published by ByteDance, signs in with a phone number and downloads directly inside China. It installs on a home computer, so practice can continue after class.
A school class you can trust
The course is open only to students of our school. Materials are handed out in class and parents are welcome to sit in.
A birthday page that moves, plays and grants a wish
Every feature is built by the child: read the sample prompt to TRAE and watch it happen in class.
A cake whose candles blow out
A large cake sits in the middle of the page; click a candle and it "blows out", click again and it relights.
Sample prompt
“Make me a birthday page with a three-tier cake in the middle with candles on it, and when I click a candle the flame goes out.”
Balloons that never run out
Balloons in every colour drift up from the bottom of the screen; pop one and another rises to take its place.
Sample prompt
“Add colourful balloons to the page background that float slowly upward, and make a balloon pop and disappear when clicked.”
Confetti across the whole screen
The moment the page opens, confetti falls from above and the words "Happy Birthday" bounce into view.
Sample prompt
“When the page opens, play an animation of confetti falling from the top, and make the title "Happy Birthday" bounce into place.”
Happy Birthday as background music
Click play and "Happy Birthday" starts; the music note icon beside it bounces along with the beat.
Sample prompt
“Add a music button that plays "Happy Birthday" when clicked, with a music note icon next to it bouncing to the beat.”
A personal greeting card
Write a family member’s name and your message; the card flips over, with a little surprise on the back.
Sample prompt
“Make a greeting card that flips over: the front shows a name, and turning it over shows the message I wrote.”
Share with family in one tap
The page goes live on the internet and gets a QR code, so family can open it on a phone with one scan.
Sample prompt
“Publish this page online for me and generate a shareable link and a QR code.”
8 lessons, from zero to a published project
Each lesson runs 40–45 minutes with visible progress in the room. Nothing hard is left hanging; ideas can be carried on at home.
TRAE: the AI coding tool published by ByteDance
Downloads directly inside China, works after a phone-number sign-in, Chinese interface. Doubao, DeepSeek and other widely used models are built in.
TRAE, China edition
Everything used in class sits inside what TRAE offers individual users. It supports Windows 10/11 and macOS 12 or later, and installs on ordinary home computers as well as school lab machines. The AI computation runs in the cloud, so hardware requirements are minimal.
SOLO mode
State what you need; the AI plans, writes the code and runs it
Plan mode
A task list before any work starts, so the AI’s thinking is visible
DiffView comparison
See exactly what the AI added and changed
Domestic large models
Doubao, DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM and others built in
After 8 lessons they take home more than a web page
By the end every child has finished and published a birthday page for their family, and takes home the abilities below.
A web project made for family
By the last lesson the birthday page is live, and family can open it by scanning a QR code with a phone.
The ability to direct AI
Learning to write clear prompts pays off just as well in essays, slide decks and research.
An understanding of how pages work
Knowing what HTML, CSS and JavaScript each handle lays the ground for studying programming more seriously later.
The nerve to get things wrong
Having broken a program and repaired it by hand, they learn an error is not frightening — it is the computer pointing at what went wrong.
The experience of shipping
Owning a web address and a QR code, and feeling what it is like when other people can open your work.
The confidence of a maker
Moving from "I cannot do this" to "I made it", so the child reaches for new tools on their own.
A teacher who likes watching students actually finish things
Rather than lecture through theory, Mr Huang prefers to build alongside the students so something visible exists by the end of the lesson.
Mr Huang
AI programming instructor
Focused on teaching AI-assisted coding, guiding complete beginners to direct an AI in their own words and finish their first web project.
Teaching style
Focused on AI-assisted coding, with a simple method that starts fast
Has taught introductory coding to several middle and high school classes
Taught entirely in Chinese; no English background required
Homework is never compulsory and creative tasks are voluntary
A class held only at our school
The course is not open to outsiders. The school arranges it, and the class group and timetable follow the school’s announcement.
A computer
Windows 10/11 or macOS 12 or later; a home machine or a school lab machine both work.
A phone number
Used to sign in to TRAE; a parent’s number is fine.
Someone you most want to greet
Family, a classmate or a friend — the page is being made for that person.
The questions parents ask, answered here
The handful of questions parents raise most often.
No. This is a class for our own students, currently held only at our school and not open to outsiders. The school arranges the class group and timetable, and its announcement is what counts.
Yes. The course is designed for complete beginners: no syntax to memorise, no commands to recall. What matters is saying the idea clearly. Anyone who can type and use a browser can finish all 8 lessons.
TRAE is the China edition of an AI coding tool from ByteDance, the company behind Douyin. It signs in with a phone number (a parent’s number is fine) and downloads directly inside China. The teacher guides every step in class, and children use it only within the course project.
An ordinary home computer or the school lab machines are enough: Windows 10 / 11 or macOS 12 or later can all run it. TRAE itself is small and the AI computation happens in the cloud, so hardware requirements are minimal.
Everyone can complete the main track, and each lesson adds a "challenge task". Students with energy to spare, high schoolers especially, can add a countdown, a photo wall or a wish wall to their page, with no ceiling.
Each lesson runs 40 to 45 minutes, no compulsory homework is set, and creative tasks are entirely voluntary. The course exercises expression, breaking problems down and working with your hands — all of which feed back into schoolwork.
The birthday page is only a starting point. Once they have the habit of working with AI, children can go on to a personal homepage, a class website or a small game, or study Python or web development properly with the AI helping.
